Buying a Refurbished Power Station: What Jackery and EcoFlow Refurbished Are Actually Worth

The word carries no legal definition, so the shop's own wording matters more than the label.

EcoFlow describes the process on its own refurbished page as engineers running strict testing and maintenance before sale, using original parts where needed to reach an as-new condition. The same page states a number nobody else publishes: on average its refurbished products have been through only about 10 charge cycles. These are overwhelmingly withdrawal returns, not worn-out units (as of 07.08.2026).

Jackery frames it through condition rather than process. On the product pages of its German refurbished shop, the Explorer 500 (Generalüberholt) carries the line that the power station is covered by a one-year warranty for products in "99 % new" condition (retrieved 07.08.2026).

What neither provides is a per-unit battery report. Neither Jackery nor EcoFlow states a measured remaining capacity, a cycle count or a health grade for the specific device you receive. The 10 cycles are an average across the range, not a statement about your parcel.

This is where the buying routes separate, and they separate by a factor of two.

Amazon describes its own promise on the Amazon Renewed guarantee help page as a supplementary commercial guarantee giving a right to replacement or refund within one year of receipt if the product is faulty. "Supplementary" is the load-bearing word: a manufacturer guarantee sits on top of the statutory warranty, it does not replace it.

And for used goods the statutory period is shorter, but not arbitrarily short. Section 476(2) of the German Civil Code allows a reduction to one year only where the consumer was specifically informed of it before making their contractual declaration and the reduction was expressly and separately agreed. Without both of those steps, two years stands. A sentence buried in the terms does not satisfy the wording of the provision.

Both shops show a struck-through comparison price in the refurbished section. That comparison price is not what the new unit costs in the same shop today. The illusion lives in exactly that gap.

The DELTA 2 row is the reason this article exists. The refurbished listing carries a struck-through comparison price of 1,337 €, which reads as roughly 45 percent off. The brand-new unit of the same model cost 549 € in the same shop on the same day. Buy on the banner and you pay 190 € more for a used device on the same warranty.

Two of the five Jackery listings cost exactly the same refurbished as new. That is not an accusation against the shop: new prices move with promotions while refurbished prices are rarely repriced to follow. For a buyer it still means the snapshot decides, and you have to take the snapshot yourself.

It is also worth noticing where the real discounts sit. The two clearest savings in both tables are solar panels and small stations, not the large capacities carrying the big absolute numbers.

EcoFlow states that refurbished devices are final sales and can only be returned within 30 days of purchase if they fail to work properly due to manufacturing defects (retrieved 07.08.2026). The same page says shipping of refurbished items to most EU countries is free.

That is the shop's voluntary returns policy. It sits alongside the statutory right of withdrawal, not above it. Section 312g(1) of the German Civil Code gives consumers a right of withdrawal on distance contracts, and the list of exceptions in subsection 2 names thirteen categories. Used, refurbished or final-sale goods are not among them.

In practice: an online purchase from a brand shop is a distance contract for a consumer, and calling it a final sale does not turn it into a different kind of contract. This is buying advice, not legal advice; if a shop refuses a withdrawal, a consumer advice centre is the right address rather than the retailer's contact form.

On a power station it is not the housing that ages, it is the cell. Two things matter, and only one of them appears in the listings.

EcoFlow points at the chemistry's rated life: many of its newer models are designed for more than 3,000 cycles, which is why roughly 10 used cycles barely register (de.ecoflow.com, retrieved 07.08.2026). The arithmetic is sound, but it rests on an average and on the manufacturer's own life rating, not on a measurement of your unit.

What neither shop states is how the device was stored between return and resale. A lithium cell left deeply discharged on a shelf for months loses capacity regardless of its cycle count. Jackery's own storage rule of thumb for owners is to recharge the power station every 3 months to keep the battery above 50 % (product FAQ, retrieved 07.08.2026). There is no comparable public commitment covering the storage period before resale.

None of that is a reason not to buy. It is a reason to act: charge the unit fully on arrival, discharge it against a known load, and compare the energy you get out with the rated capacity. If the gap is well beyond normal conversion losses, you have found it inside the withdrawal period rather than in the third winter.

The decision turns less on condition than on capacity class, because that is where new prices move at different speeds. The new units below are price reference points for the comparison, not refurbished recommendations.

Up to around 300 Wh: the premium for new is small

New prices in this class are low enough that a 30 to 50 euro saving rarely outweighs a shorter warranty. The Anker SOLIX C300 DC Powerstation 288 Wh (LiFePO4, ohne Wechselrichter) sat at 169.99 € new on 07.08.2026, which shows how little room there is. Saving here means saving in the wrong place.

Around 1,000 Wh: the widest spread of all

This is exactly where the DELTA 2 trap sat. The class is fiercely contested, promotional pricing on new units is frequent, and a refurbished price set three months ago is simply stale. The EcoFlow Delta 3 Plus Powerstation, 1024 Wh is a current device in this capacity class and the sensible anchor to check before buying a refurbished predecessor.

Around 1,000 Wh bundled with a panel

Bundles shift the maths, because the panel often carries the larger refurbished discount rather than the station. Take the bundle apart and compare the parts. Above 1,000 Wh with inverter headroom

If you are buying for continuous output rather than capacity, compare that figure first and let price come second. The Anker SOLIX C1000 Powerstation 1056 Wh (1800 W) mit Tragetasche is a common new-price reference point in this class.

From 2 kWh upward: the best case for refurbished

At high absolute prices, even a 10 to 15 percent discount is worth several hundred euros, as the DELTA Pro 3 row shows at 320 € apart. At the same time, shipping is bulky and a fault is expensive, so warranty length weighs most heavily here. 1. Write down the new price in the same shop on the same day. Not the struck-through comparison price, and not an RRP quoted in a 2025 review.
2. Read the warranty length in the offer rather than assuming it. One year at Jackery and Amazon Renewed, two years at EcoFlow, as of 07.08.2026.
3. Check whether any reduction of the statutory warranty is expressly and separately agreed. Without both steps under section 476(2) BGB, two years stands.
4. Read the returns policy and the withdrawal notice as separate documents. The shop rule is voluntary; the right of withdrawal comes from statute.
5. Charge fully on arrival and discharge against a known load. That is the only capacity evidence you are going to get.
6. On a predecessor model, check that accessories and expansion batteries are still available. A cheap old unit with a discontinued expansion battery is not a saving.
7. Price panels separately. On 07.08.2026 the clearest discounts in both shops were on solar panels, not on stations.
